Self-assessment report published in relation to upcoming ENQA-led review

IAQA has applied for full membership to the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA). As part of the application procedure, IAQA will undergo an external review led by ENQA. The review will formally evaluate whether and how IAQA meets the expectations of the European Standards and Guidelines (ESG), based on the Agency's self-assessment report and the review panel's interviews with the IAQA team and stakeholders during a site visit on 20-22 May 2026. Information on the review and the panel composition is found in ENQA's review database.

Becoming a full member of ENQA provides IAQA with significant recognition and access to resources and professional networks in the international community of quality assurance. Membership will provide the Agency with official acknowledgement that it meets international standards to quality assurance as laid out in the ESG. This includes a formal review of the Agency’s procedures and approach to the evaluation of quality in Icelandic higher education institutions, bringing enhanced recognition and validity nationally and internationally. The review is scheduled to finish in September 2026 when the ENQA Agency Review Committee is expected to validate the external review report.

Given a successful evaluation, IAQA will apply for registration in The European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR). An EQAR listing will promote further trust in Icelandic higher education and international recognition of degrees.
